Development cooperation
Development cooperation is one of SIUs key tasks, and the centre manages programmes and initiatives on behalf of Norad and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Norwegian Programme for Development, Research and Education (NUFU) supports partnership-based academic cooperation between researchers and institutions in developing countries and their partners in Norway focusing on research, education, capacity building and institutional development.
The NUFU Supplementing Activities (SA) scheme has provided supplementary support to certain activities connected to projects supported by the NUFU Programme (2007–2012).
The NUCOOP Programme (Norwegian University Cooperation Programme for Capacity Development in Sudan) is a cooperation programme between higher education institutions in Sudan and Norway. The programme supports cooperation projects focusing on capacity building, research and infrastructure.
The Norwegian government provides students from developing countries in the South and countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia with financial support to study for a degree in Norway under the Quota Scheme.
In 2006 Norway was included as a country of destination for candidates in Pakistan’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for PhD in Selected Fields.
The overall goal of the Tanzania Agreement at government level is to enhance the quality of higher education and research in Tanzania in order to contribute to poverty reduction in the country.
