Scheme for Norwegian studies abroad

The Scheme for Norwegian studies at higher education institutions abroad includes grants for higher education institutions which offer courses in Norwegian topics, grants for student fieldwork in Norway and administration of Norwegian teachers abroad scheme.

 

About the programme

This scheme includes the Norwegian Teachers Abroad Scheme, the Semester Grant, in addition to teaching grants and grants to events.

The aim of the scheme is to support Norway's positive image internationally and to promote Norway abroad by co-operating with and providing services for overseas higher education institutions that offer Norwegian language and cultural studies. The aim is also to help make provisions for foreign students wanting to study or carry out research at Norwegian higher education institutions.

The target group for the funding scheme is overseas students. Grants are awarded for various purposes and to various candidates who, in turn, support the teaching of Norwegian to overseas students. Specific target groups are:

  • Overseas students: Students who study Norwegian-related subjects at educational institutions overseas may visit Norway to complete parts of their studies or to carry out research.
  • Norwegian teachers abroad: Lecturer put forward by SIU/the Advisory Council on fixed-term contracts of up to six years and who are in receipt of a non-taxable grant.
  • Educational institutions offering Norwegian studies: Higher education institutions abroad offering Norwegian language classes or Norwegian studies.
  • Norwegian universities and higher education studies: Summer courses at Norwegian universities/higher education institutions for overseas students and teachers who study/teach Norwegian studies.
