Norwegian University Cooperation Programme for Capacity Development in Sudan (NUCOOP)

The NUCOOP programme aims to contribute to the development of sustainable capacity of higher education institutions in Southern Sudan and other marginalised areas in country and to provide the workforce with adequate qualifications.

The NUCOOP Programme was initiated by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is based on a contract between Norad and SIU. The first phase of NUCOOP runs from 2007 to 2011 and geographical priority is given to Southern Sudan. NOK 65 million is set aside to support cooperation projects between institutions of higher education in Sudan and Norway.

Seven projects have received funding from NUCOOP. Participating universities in Sudan are:

  • University of Juba
  • Upper Nile University
  • University of Bahr el Ghazal
